I have my website and my courses advertised in this site!

"Cake Decorating Courses, Classes & Workshops"

http://www.cakedecoratingcourses.co.uk/

Gary Chapman, myself and many others, were invited to exhibit on the 'By Invitation Only' table at Cake International 2011 and by a happy accident our cakes were placed side by side. You can see Gary's use of my Patterned Paste techniques on his cake and his Fabric Flower technique on my P.Paste handbag, neither of us knew what the other would be presenting!

Just received this Email, congratulations Fiona! Well done!

Hi Geraldine,

I just wanted to let you know that I did enter the PME cupcake challenge after my private class with you and got through to the finals at cake international. I ended up coming second place and was so thrilled. I used your patterned paste technique to make candy striped bows, and also made ribbon roses along with other filler flowers. Gary Chapman was one of the judges and recognised your technique straight away!

I've attached a picture of one of the cupcakes. Thanks again for all of you help.

Best wishes,

Fiona

It is a great honour to be asked to demonstrate at Cake International at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, and I am delighted to say I will be demonstrating Patterned Paste Flowers - Without Wires on Saturday 5th November at 15.45!

Sugar flowers without wires are totally edible and can be made directly on the cake or made in advance and kept until required. They are ideal for Continental cakes as well as the traditional British cake.

Did you see my Sea Monster on Surbiton's Group Exhibition table at the B.S.G. Exhibition at Brighton Racecourse on Saturday 7th May 2011!?

Patterned Pastes in marzipan are really easy.

Visit to Bulgaria April 2011

Teaching in Bulgaria was a delight, the people were lovely, the workshops very well run and everything went well. My interpreter was wonderful and became a good friend, I shall miss them all! The students were professional sugarcrafters/bakers with their own businesses from all over Bulgaria and further afield and were delighted to find patterned paste techniques can be quick and commercially viable and not that difficult to learn. We also painted on sugarpaste and pastillage with some Folk Art techniques, another first for them! They went away very happy and full of ideas for their own work, and they would like me to return next year with workshops on patterned flowers without wires and the soft focus technique. I am looking forward to returning there already, such a good experience. Thank you Bulgaria and especially Villi, Petya and Szonka!

An illustrated article about my Sugar Art was featured in 'Parfait', a Japanese Magazine recently, and my review of  'Off The Wall'  was accepted this summer for 'Slatka Planeta', a new sugarcraft magazine in Slovenia. Lots of interest abroad now!

Many of my cakes showing Patterned Paste techniques and many other skills have been featured in 'Cakes and Sugarcraft' magazine and the Patterned Paste Macintosh Rose in Squires Kitchen's Wedding Cakes Magazine. Contact Squires Kitchen for back copies.

(This Email message arrived recently from Penney Pang, so good to know the Patterned Paste techniques are getting the recognition internationally:

"Hi Geraldine
I met you at Squire's exhibition in 2009, and I was really amazed by your patterned paste which you showcased at the exhibition. I bought your book (which you have autographed), and I love it so much. I used your technique in one of my creations, and it got me a bronze medal in an international wedding cake competition. Everyone at the competition were very surprised about the pattern, and I can't thank you enough for your unselfish sharing."

Cakes and Sugarcraft Magazine issue 108

features two of my Patterned Paste projects, the animal skin handbag and the candy striped camellia.

Visit to Sweden

Scandinavian Cake Show 29th 30th August 2009

British style cake decorating is gradually catching on in Scandinavia and 'Tart Decor' kindly invited me to demonstrate and run a workshop with a Patterned Pastes theme at their exhibition in Kungalv. This international exhibition is growing from strength to strength each year with a growing number of competitors of an increasingly high standard, and visited by hundreds of people interested in learning more about cake decoration. The whole weekend was great fun and afterwards I had time to explore the local beauty spots and taste the famous Princes Cake, an absolutely divine mix of marzipan and cream held together with a light fat-less sponge. Didn't need anything else to eat all day!

Network

Richmond and West London Arts Magazine

The editor commissioned me to write an article explaining how sugar is used as an art medium, which has just been published in the Autumn edition of Network, issue 50. It covers the old historic use of sugar for sculptural centrepieces, how royal icing can be adapted to be made into a permanent work of art, and how the very fragility of flower paste exhibits can enhance their attraction. Illustrated with images from 'Off The Wall'.

‘Off The Wall’

Tuesday 4th August – Sunday 16th August 2009

Exhibition of Sugar Art and Mixed Media

The Fountain Gallery, 26 Bridge Road, East Molesey, Surrey KT8 9HA

The inspiration for this new show started with the wonderful collection of wallpapers held by the Victoria and Albert Museum which took me on a creative journey into new canvases and sculptures with sugar. Many of my works were carefully preserved to remain permanent works of art.

The Book of  Patterned Pastes

By learning just five basic techniques you can create hundreds of patterns and effects, such as stripes, checks, dots and circles, honeycomb patterns, reptile and leopard skin effects, multi-toned petals and flowers including tulips, roses an carnations, and repeat patterns for fabric and wallpaper designs. Once familiar with the five basic techniques of patterning marzipan, sugarpaste and flower paste, creating your very own unique patterns will be easy. The biggest advantage will be the time saved adding colour and pattern to your sugarcraft projects, definitely the techniques of the future for commercial work as well as the busy sugarcrafter working from home.

‘The Book of Patterned Pastes’ is published by B. Dutton Publishing Limited, and is on sale at Squires Kitchen, 3 Waverley Lane, Farnham, GU9 8BB (opposite Farnham train station) telephone 0845 2255671or can be ordered on line http://www.squires-shop.com/       or through Amazon.
