Lindy Smith

Lindy Smith is probably best known for her novelty cake designs, although she creates many types of colourful and innovative cakes. Lindy has had two novelty cake books published, has appeared on Carlton Television’s Icing on the Cake and the BBC’s Generation game, She is British Sugarcraft Guild accredited demonstrator and regularly contributes to Cakes and Sugarcraft Magazine.

Flotsam

30cm x 30 cm x 35cm high sugarpaste cube cake

The idea behind this piece is that the cube cake is a piece of flotsam adrift on the ocean and that the faces of the cube tell the story of its journey. Start with the pale cream face near the water and trace the patterns as they lead from one face to another.

35.5cm x 35.5cm x 50cm sugarpaste dome and ball stacked cake

A sudden thought one evening led to these stacked ball cakes. The shape, plus the initial ‘inspiration’, then led on to the spire theme. Religious buildings from around the world use this shape and influences for the decoration on the cake have been taken from such sources
