Jane Basson

Jane became involved with Taste of Art by following her 40th Birthday mission statement – " Go For It! " Having been a creative dabbler for years she began to combine particular passions, especially sewing and cake decorating. "Imagine my delight when I read the words ‘sugarcraft could be an art medium.’ The piping bag has replaced the needle; my appliqué work no longer confines itself to a quilt. I’m in creative heaven!"

Snippets From Klimt’s Kiss

(A Triptych)

Klimt's Kiss 1

Klimt's Kiss 2

Klimt's Kiss 3

50cm x 60cm, 30cm x 30cm and 30cm x 30cm – sugar collage on wood

The three pieces are based on a detail from one of Jane’s favourite works of art – Gustav Klimt’s opulent and decorative ‘The Kiss’. She is influenced by both Art Deco and Art Nouveau with a particular love for works by Kandinsky, Klee, Klimt and Charles Rennie Mackintosh; but inspiration comes from many sources – fabrics, natural materials like wood etc. The list is endless.

Jane writes: "My work has no hidden or symbolic meaning; however, I hope it may in some way persuade people that sugarcraft is as much a form of art as painting or sculpture."
