Irene Hunchak

Irene is a self- taught sugar artist living in Canada. Her involvement started quite accidentally about 7 years ago when she started decorating birthday cakes for her daughters. Further experimentation with sugar as an art medium led Irene on a stimulating, ever changing, educational journey. Currently Irene particularly enjoys creating sugar scenes with hand-modelled figures, which hopefully brings a smile to the viewers face.

Anthony And Cleopatra

Hand modelled sugar tableau made exclusively with pastillage.

This fantasy period piece is based on a line from Shakespeare’s play Anthony and Cleopatra, "I love long life better than figs". Here we have two pigs, Anthony and Cleopatra, dancing a lively jig in praise of figs and the good life. There are no artificial supports; a solid pastillage base in the skirt and the circular design of the upper bodies obtains stability.
